What You’ll Learn and Do

Explore the Sociohistorical Contexts of Black History

The Black Studies program is an interdisciplinary exploration of the histories, cultural movements, and identities of people of African ancestry. It examines the rich cultural heritage, resistance to oppression, and unique perspectives on human rights contributed by African-descended peoples. This program fosters an understanding of the deep sociohistorical contexts that shape Black experiences.

Investigate Complex Global Questions

Through courses in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, the Black Studies curriculum addresses the global impacts of race and ethnicity. Students engage in comparative and theoretical examinations of Africa and the African Diaspora, equipping them to analyze complex global issues from an interdisciplinary perspective.

Prepare for a Multi-Ethnic Global Society
