ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´â€™s Jazz Ensemble presents its Spring Jazz Concert with special guest cornetist Kirk Knuffke at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 25, 2013 , at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´â€™s Gonzaga Auditorium . The event in one of several taking place on campus that puts ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´ students in starring roles. ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´â€™s Jazz Ensemble is directed by Brian Q. Torff, ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´â€™s Director of Jazz and Popular Music, with student leader Jenna Taylor . Also performing is the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´ Gospel Choir directed by Maurice Wiley . Tickets are $5 at the door. Gonzaga Auditorium is located in Gonzaga Hall on the campus of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´.

Kirk Knuffke (pictured-photo by Ken Weiss) leads several of his own groups, including the Kirk Knuffke Quartet and Trio, which play at venues across New York City, and has three recordings as a leader available through the Cleanfeed and No Business labels.  The Jazz Ensemble consists of Chris Finelli on trumpets, Michael Mauro, Amanda Ocasio, and Alexis Ellis on saxes, Jenna Taylor on flute, guest Arthur Ashman on trombones, Robby Schwartz on piano, John Domenico and Jamie Debicella on guitar, Brian Torff on bass, and Chuck DeFilippo and DJ Horstmann on drums.

Theatre Fairfield , ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´â€™s resident production company, closes its 2012-2013 season with a production of Mary Zimmerman’s Arabian Nights. A fifteen-member all-student cast enacts Scheherazade’s epic tales of love, lust, comedy, and dreams. Performances run April 24 through April 27 at 8 p.m., and April 27 and 28 at 2 p.m., and take place in the Wien Black Box Experimental Theatre at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´â€™s Quick Center for the Arts. Post-show talkbacks will follow the Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday evening performances. Tickets are $12 general admission, $6 seniors and University staff, and $5 students .

The production is directed by guest artist Jesse Jou. The cast consists of Joe Plouffe ’13 as Shahryar, Maggie Greene ’15 as Scheherazade, Michael Maio ’13 as Harun Al- Rashid, Molly Gregory ’16, Katie Gillette ’15, Brianna Engelke ’16, Katie Premus ’15, Veronique Poutre ’16, Kelan McDonnell ’15, TJ Franco ’15, Josh Matteo ’16, Alec Bandzes ’15, Ryan Champlin ’16, Brendan Freeman ’15, and Nick Solimini ’16. Scenic design is by Chein Yu Peng, lighting design is by Lynne Chase, costume design is by Julie Leavitt, and sound/ music design is by Chad Raines. The show is stage managed by Emily Skudrzyk ’14, and Logan Pratt ’15, with Mary Corigliano ’14, serving as one of the production’s assistant stage managers and dramaturg.

The ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´ Glee Club with The Pops Band presents Glee Goes Back To The Eighties at 8 p.m., Thursday, May 2, 2013, at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´â€™s Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts. The program features renditions of memorable hit songs and timeless classics written by stars like Lionel Richie, John Mellencamp, Billy Joel, and Stephen Soundheim. The concert features performances by The ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´ Glee Club conducted by Carole Ann Maxwell, D.S.M., with accompanist Beth Palmer, and the Reverend Charles H. Allen S.J., Chaplain, as well as by Glee Club members in a variety of collaborations. Also performing are The Bensonians, an all-male a cappella group directed by Robert Preli, Sweet Harmony , an all-female ensemble of chamber singers directed by Lindsey Gorgol, Nicole Raposo, and Diana Lordi, and the Chamber Singers under the direction of Dr. Maxwell, The Glee Band , and Chasing Carmen. The ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´ Glee Club , founded in 1947, is the oldest club on the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´ campus. The members share a deep love for music and a common desire to achieve excellence in it. The Glee Club numbers over 130 undergraduate and graduate singers. The Glee Club is the parent organization of two additional choral ensembles: Sweet Harmony and The Bensonians. The ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´ Chamber Singers is the first mixed choir on campus. The Pops Band consists ofMike Nunno, bass; Anthony DeQuattro, drums; Dan Arcamone, guitar; and Mark Beyerly, keyboards. The Glee Band features Robby Schwartz, keyboards; D.J. Horstmann, percussion; Seamus Barrett, guitar; John Domenico, guitar; Adam Powojeski, guitar; Chris Vinelli, guitar; and Chris Aranci, bass. Chasing Carmen consist of Evan D’Abrosca, guitar and vocals; Zakk Rogg-Meltzer, guitar and vocals; Joey D’Alessio, bass; Peter Sweeney, drums.
