Women's Basketball Season Opens Friday

The 天美传媒视频无限制观看 women's basketball team will open their 2013-14 campaign on November 8 at the Emerald Beach Hotel Islander Classic in Corpus Christi, Texas. The Stags tip-off the tournament against the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) at 2pm (CST) on Friday. Fairfield will face either host Texas A&M Corpus Christi or Western Illinois University on Saturday.

Welcome Back: The Stags return eight members of last year's squad, including four starters. Fairfield's roster features five seniors and two juniors.
Fresh Faces Part I: The Stags have five new faces on the team this year in transfers and and rookies , , and . Dupuy transferred from Marquette University and will sit out the 2013-14 season due to NCAA transfer rules. Smith transferred from Saint Joseph's University and is currently awaiting an NCAA waiver decision. Carey was a 2,000-point scorer at Saint Joseph Hill Academy in Staten Island. Cooper spent the summer with the Canadian Junior National Team at the FIBA World Championships. Miller scored more than 1,600 points at Cedar Creek High School and was named the Atlantic City Press Player of the Year.

A Look Back at 2012-13: Fairfield went 18-14 overall and 11-7 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The Stags qualified for its third national postseason appearance in four seasons participating in the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI) for the second time. Fairfield advanced to the WBI Quarterfinals for the second time defeating No. 6 Saint Francis University, 71-51, at Alumni Hall on March 21. Fairfield was nipped by the University of Pennsylvania, 49-48, on a buzzbeater at The Palestra. In the final NCAA statistical rankings of the 2012-13 season, the Stags ranked 23rd in scoring defense, holding opponents to just 53.9 points per game. Fairfield checked in at 31st in the nation in three-point field goal defense, with opponents shooting just 27.1 percent. Individually, junior ranked 23rd in the country in three-point field goal percentage (.392).
