Theatre Fairfield Presents Ionesco's "Rhinoceros"

"Rhinoceros" takes place in a small, provincial French town that is unexpectedly overrun by rhinoceroses. Where are they all coming from? Why are all the people disappearing? Are they joining the herd? One of the great plays of the last century, "Rhinoceros" explores the human impulses for both conformity and individuality in a surprisingly comical fashion. One of the questions the play poses is: "How do we know where normality ends and abnormality begins?" Director Jackob G. Hofmann is exploring this question by bringing various cultural traditions from around the world onto the stage in order to challenge our perception of normality. In addition, he questions the intricacies of herd mentality. What draws people to follow others? Fear? Laziness? Apathy? What convinces them to stay individuals? Using the actors' strengths to his advantage, Hofmann promises a production of "Rhinoceros" like never before.

Theatre Fairfield's presentation of "Rhinoceros" is based on a translation by Martin Crimp that was staged at the Royal Court Theatre, London, in September 2007. Joining director Jackob G. Hofmann in bringing this production to life are Dr. Martha Schmoyer LoMonaco as Co-Producer, Lynne Porter as Co-Producer and Scenic Designer, Lynne Chase as Lighting Designer, Julie Leavitt as Costume Designer, and Kevin Schneck as Technical Director.
