������ý��Ƶ�����ƹۿ�'s Studio Art Junior/Senior Seminar exhibition, Remnants , opens on Tuesday, April 15 at the Loyola Galleries in the lower level of Loyola Hall, with a reception beginning at 5 p.m.

The exhibition, which displays the works of nine studio art junior and senior students, will run until May 5.

Students presenting their art have been working on their installations all semester as part of the Junior/Senior Seminar class that all studio art majors and minors take. Professor Suzanne Chamlin, associate professor of studio art in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts, is teaching the course this spring.

Over the course of the semester, each student has worked independently to develop a unique body of work to represent his or her growth as an artist. In addition, participants in the class meet weekly for group critiques.

The final exhibition will showcase a diverse range of works including video installation, oil on canvas, sculpture, ink on paper, and mixed media.

In their own words, students said the following about their exhibits:

Abigail V. Abrams ’15:

“I am currently working on a series that involves the weaving together of two images in order to capture the wonder that is ever-present in life.  I have chosen to use acrylic paint and charcoal for this series.”

Jack Beggs '14:
Through video and installation, Jack Begg’s challenges senses through sight, sound and touch and exploring the sublime.

Kelly Conley ’15:
Kelly is working in oil on canvas, observing folds and forms of fabric. She is currently working on three large scale, 30"x 40” pieces, one of which includes hints of the human figure.

“Art is a visual language which is produced solely by emotion and the embodiment of one’s inner soul. It’s a form of communication connecting senses one never knew existed. Art is the production of passion and internal spirit.”

Victoria Dolloff ’14:
Dolloff’s medium includes all materials and objects, installation, sculpture, drawing and areas in between.

“I focus on objects in metamorphosis….this exploration has grown to encompass larger themes like culture, materiality and concepts of spirituality.”

John Driscoll ’14 .
Driscoll is working in Ink on Paper and mark making on scratchboard. Exploring fields of marks in working with images of skulls, landscape and the human figure, each composition presents a new way of thinking about surface and image.

Nikki M. Elibero ’14 :
Eyes and lips. Medium: pencil, colored pencil, mixed media

“As an artist, I attempt to bring awareness to our biggest fears.  I’ll know that I am doing my job properly when there is a connection between my work and the viewer, whether it is unnerving, bizarre, or fulfilling.”

Allison Nottingham ’15:

“My work is based on the theme of mazes as a representation of relationships within our lives.   I am using mixed materials of acrylic paint with cork on canvas.”

Escarlin Ramirez ’14:

“The series I am currently working on centers on my country’s, the Dominican Republic's, unique legacy of faceless ceramic dolls called, ‘Munecas lime’ or lime dolls. The medium I am working with in this series is acrylic paint on canvas.”

Crystal Maria Rodriguez ’14:

Rodriguez is working with installation and will be constructing a new piece to present in the Hall Wall Galleries in Loyola.
