The audience votes for its favorite song and watches as the cast turns it into a full blown improvised musical - complete with memorable characters, witty dialogue, and plot twists galore. Comedy fans and musical theatre lovers alike will enjoy this聽 hilarious show, where every song is fresh, every scene is new, and every night is different. Opening weekend continues with the sizzling spicy jazz sounds of The Hot Sardines , performing at 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2014 . The band invokes the music of a near-century ago with straight-up, foot-stomping jazz that stays resolutely in step with the current age. With nods to the styles of Louis Armstrong, Django Reinhardt and Fats Waller, the Sardines have a sound steeped in hot jazz spiced with salty stride piano. Their jazz roots run deep and intertwine with French influences via their frontwoman, 鈥淢iz Elizabeth鈥 Bougerol, who was born and raised in Paris and writes songs in both languages. The band was born when Bougerol met stride piano player, bandleader Evan 鈥淏ibs鈥 Palazzo, at a jam session they found on Craigslist. Above a noodle shop on Manhattan鈥檚 49th Street, they discovered a mutual love for songs from the 1920s, 鈥30s and 鈥40s. In a short time, the Hot Sardines went from their first gig 鈥 at a coffee shop on the last Q train stop in Queens 鈥 to selling out Joe鈥檚 Pub 11 times in a year, headlining at Lincoln Center鈥檚 Midsummer Night Swing, and opening for the Bad Plus, Lulu Gainsbourg and French gypsy-jazz artist Zaz. Through it all they鈥檝e become regulars at the Shanghai Mermaid speakeasy and turned The Standard, where they play regularly, into their own 鈥渟aloon in the sky鈥 ( The Wall Street Journal ) 鈥 complete with tap dancing on the bar 鈥 honing a live persona that鈥檚 been called 鈥渦nforgettably wild鈥 and 鈥渃onsistently electrifying鈥 ( Popmatters ). Jazz fans of music icons Pink Martini and the Squirrel Nut Zippers will love the Hot Sardines. Reserved tickets are $45, $40, and $35; 天美传媒视频无限制观看 students: $5.
