Colin Burke Earns Fifth CAA Rookie of the Week Award
After helping lead the Fairfield men’s lacrosse team to a come-from-behind victory over Drexel this past Saturday, Colin Burke ’19 was named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week for the third consecutive week and the fifth time overall in 2016. Burke scored two goals and recorded an assist on Saturday at Rafferty Stadium.
The only CAA freshman with more than two Rookie of the Week awards to his credit this spring, Burke’s fifth honor matches the total won by teammate Will Fox ’18 last season en route to 2015 CAA Rookie of the Year laurels.
This spring, Burke has scored a CAA-leading 31 goals and distributed 12 assists to round out his league-best 43 points. He is eight goals shy of the Fairfield rookie record of 38 goals accumulated by Spencer Steele ’00 in 1997. Burke is also chasing the program’s freshman points record established by J.T. Groarke ’99 with 53 points (26 goals, 27 assists) in 1996. Steele and Groarke are both members of the Fairfield Athletics Hall of Fame.
On the national level, Burke currently ranks third among all freshmen and 21st overall with 2.58 goals per game. He also places fourth among rookies and 37th among all players with 3.58 points per contest.
Burke and the Stags pass the halfway point of the CAA schedule this Saturday, April 16, as Fairfield (6-6, 2-0 CAA) hosts Massachusetts (4-6, 0-2 CAA) at 1 p.m. for Senior Day on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium. Fairfield Lacrosse will honor its six-member Class of 2016 prior to faceoff with the Minutemen. Tickets are available at .
