Fairfield JUHAN Supports Victims of Ecuador Earthquake

天美传媒视频无限制观看 students from Campus Ministry, JUHAN, and students who participated in the Campus Ministry trip to Ecuador over winter break, raised money to help people there who were impacted by the April 16th 7.8 earthquake that struck the country. Many of the towns affected were destroyed, and over 500 people lost their lives as a result of one of the most powerful earthquakes to hit Latin America over the last 20 years.

From their efforts, the students were able to raise a total of $ 2,248 dollars including $300 dollars from bake sales around campus. The funds will go to Catholic Relief Services, to aid in their efforts to help 20,000 families with shelter, water, sanitation and psychological support services.

“A large part of JUHAN is the fact that when there is a natural disaster or crisis or crisis around the world, we stand in solidarity with the people affected and try to help them in whatever way we can,” Said Deirdre McElroy. “Honestly this is one of the reasons why I love JUHAN: when something happens, we drop everything and we help.”

“When the earthquake hit Ecuador I was personally devastated. I felt helpless and guilty because I was here while friends and family were over there. However, the instant response from JUHAN comforted me and encouraged me to keep fundraising and spreading awareness,” said Sophia Bolanos, an Ecuadorian student here at 天美传媒视频无限制观看.

Julie Mughal, 天美传媒视频无限制观看 Director, Jesuit Universities Humanitarian Action Network (JUHAN) and Assistant Director, Center for Faith & Public Life, said, “It is such a wonderful honor to work with our extraordinary JUHAN and Campus Ministry students who pulled together this fundraiser and made this donation possible. I’m equally grateful to the generosity of community members who supported the student’s efforts by donating during the Sunday masses. This effort exemplifies the wonderful Jesuit tradition of “men and women for others” and our JUHAN motto that we truly are “stronger together.”
