Don’t miss this Sunday’s special screening of Giacomo Puccini’s Madama Butterfly at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Enjoy the story of a young Japanese geisha who is stubborn in thinking her arranged marriage to a visiting American naval officer is a genuine and permanent union. Kristine Opolais delivers a captivating performance as the title role in Anthony Minghella’s 2006 production for the first time. Roberto Alagna plays opposite of Opolais in the role of the naval officer, Pinkerton, who shatters her heart. Madama Butterfly is a true classic and factors in themes of cultural and sexual imperialism, while having a lyrical feel.
