Olivia Brooks ’16 MAAC Candidate for NCAA Woman of the Year

Olivia Brooks, a 2016 Fairfield graduate and captain of the women’s golf team, has been selected as one of two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference candidates for 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year. She advances to the NCAA selection round where she and 53 other Division I candidates, including Monmouth’s Jasmine Walker, will be reviewed. The NCAA selection committee will release the finalists for the award in September.

Brooks earned her nomination after being named as an All-MAAC player for the Stags’ golf team while receiving Dean’s List and MAAC All-Academic honors as a Biology Pre-Med major with a minor in Mathematics. A two-time WGCA All-American Scholar, she also was Vice President of Fairfield’s chapter of Alpha Epsilon Delta, the Health Professions Honor Society.

Brooks interned at the New England Center for Stroke Research at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where she is currently a research associate, and has been published in the Journal of NeuroInterventional Surgery and Stroke . She also volunteered as a research associate at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport.

On the golf course, Brooks boasts an impressive résumé of individual and team achievements. She was Fairfield’s top finisher at the 2016 MAAC Championships with a sixth place performance to earn All-MAAC laurels. She won the individual 2014 ECAC Championship, leading the Stags to the first of back-to-back team crowns at the event, and shared medalist honors at the 2016 Sacred Heart Tri-Match. Also in 2014, she was a major part of the Stags’ victories in both the Quinnipiac Classic and Hartford Invitational tournaments.

Established in 1991, the NCAA Woman of the Year Award recognizes outstanding female student-athletes for their excellence in academics, athletics, service and leadership.
