Stags Baseball Headed to the Postseason, Eyes Top Seed in MAAC Championship

Fairfield Baseball has clinched at least a share of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) regular season championship and will play for the outright title this Friday, May 20 against visiting Quinnipiac. First pitch from Alumni Diamond in the final Fairfield Athletics contest to be held on campus this season is slated for 1 p.m.

The Stags clinched their share of the regular season title on Thursday with a 6-2 win over the visiting Bobcats in the backend of a doubleheader. Fairfield was led by a complete-game pitching performance from Gavin Wallace ’18 and two RBIs off the bat of right fielder Jake Salpietro ’16.

The Stags have already claimed their place in the six-team MAAC Championship set to begin on Wednesday, May 25 at Dutchess Stadium in Fishkill, NY. Fairfield can earn the tournament’s top spot with a win against Quinnipiac on Friday. Otherwise, the Stags would look to Friday’s results around the MAAC to learn their seeding for next weekend.

In their fifth season under Head Coach Bill Currier, the Stags are currently 28-24 overall this spring with a 16-7 MAAC record. Prior to Friday's game, Fairfield will recognize its seniors playing in their final home contest: Tim Duggan, Aaron Howell, Brett Mikolajczyk, George Molner, Joe Randall, Jake Salpietro and Brendan Tracy.
