BIC CEO Bruno Bich visits the Dolan School Sept 19

For Bruno Bich, having a business acumen runs in the family. Succeeding his father, Marcel Bich, as the chairman and CEO of the BIC Group, the corporation most known for their pens, the heir to the billion dollar business is bringing his business expertise to Fairfield on September 19 from 7:00 p.m. 鈥 8:00 p.m. in the Dolan School of Business Dining Room.

Presented by the Marketing Club, Bich is set to headline a conversation on 鈥淢arketing in a Global Economy鈥 鈥 a task he has faced throughout his entire career. Armed with bachelor鈥檚 degrees in both marketing and finance from New York University, Bich joined the family firm at the age of 28 and served for nine years as chairman and CEO of Bic Corporation. His time at the helm of the company鈥檚 North American subsidiary grew the division, which now represents more than 40 percent of the group鈥檚 sales. He later assumed the position of chairman and CEO of the BIC Group in 1993.

Because of his high-profile career, Vice President of the Marketing Club and Marketing Major Kelsey Washburn 鈥17 knows that Bich鈥檚 visit to the Dolan School of Business will be a one-of-a-kind opportunity to learn from a field expert. 鈥淭his is a major event for the Marketing Club,鈥 Washburn said. 鈥淲e are the largest academic club on campus and our Marketing Department within the Dolan School of Business has been ranked 17th in the country, and bringing in a speaker like Bich to discuss and share his experiences with students is an exceptional opportunity.鈥

Whether students have a budding interest or a realized passion for marketing, Washburn says that Bich鈥檚 presentation will surely inspire students to consider a career in the field. 鈥淗e has incredible global marketing experience with BIC recording sales in 160 countries and on every continent,鈥 said Washburn. 鈥淚 think this will have a positive impact on Fairfield students because they will have the chance to learn from a CEO of a global company as well as encourage students to follow in his footsteps.鈥

Dr. Rajasree K. Rajamma, Chair of the Marketing Department, added 鈥淕lobalization is not just a trend but a reality that every company around the world has to deal with. Most of our students will be working soon or will have companies of their own that will seek a global presence. It is important that our students 鈥 irrespective of their major 鈥 understand the challenges and thrills of marketing in a global economy. This is a rare opportunity that our students will get to hear from the CEO of a truly global corporation. I am thankful to Mr. Bich for accepting our invitation to speak to our students amidst his extremely busy schedule.鈥

This event is free and open to the public. Students should register on OrgSync. For more information, or to register for the event if you are not a student, please contact the Dolan School of Business .
