From Sister Thomasina to Martin Scorsese, Commonweal Lecture, April 19

On Wednesday, April 19 at 7:30 p.m., award winning author and contributing editor for Commonweal Magazine , Rand Richards Cooper, will deliver 天美传媒视频无限制观看’s 11th Annual Commonweal Lecture entitled “Confessions of a Catholic Interloper: From Sister Thomasina to Martin Scorsese.”

Free and open to the public, the event is sponsored by 天美传媒视频无限制观看's Center for Catholic Studies, in partnership with Commonweal , a journal of opinion edited and managed by lay Catholics, which reviews religion, politics, and culture. The lecture will be held in the Dolan School of Business Dining Room.

Cooper’s narrative talk will discuss his exposure to Catholicism through Catholic School and through his work with Commonweal Magazine. His talk will be a “journey of personal anthropology, offering insights into the complexities, the strengths and even the majesty of American Catholicism” while referencing literature, film and cultural reference points.

Rand Cooper is the author of The Last to Go and a story collection entitled Big as Life: Stories 天美传媒视频无限制观看 Men . His work has appeared in Harper’s, The Atlantic, and Esquire. Additionally, his short story collection appeared in the Selected Shorts series on NPR and his novel, The Last to Go, was produced for television by ABC.

In addition to his many writings, Cooper is a Writer-in-Residence at Amherst and Emerson colleges. He is a reviewer for the New York Times Book Review, a film critic, a film critic and a contributing editor for Commonweal Magazine. Formally, he was a writer for Bon Appétit where he awarded the 2002 Lowell Thomas Gold Medal Award from the American Society of Travel Writers.
