The has added new National Theatre Live broadcasts to their schedule. Broadcasting world-class theatre experiences to cinemas around the world, the first of four all-new NT Live performances will kick off on May 22, 2017 and will conclude on June 28, 2017. Single tickets are $25, $20 for senior tickets, and $10 for children or students.

Opening the summer series is on May 22. This classic Shakespeare play stars Tamsin Greig as Malvolia in a new twist on the timeless comedy of mistaken identity that all begins with a shipwreck. Viola is washed ashore but her twin brother Sebastian is lost, spurring Viola to explore a new land and in turn, set off a chain mistaken identity and unrequited love.  The nearby households of Olivia and Orsino are overrun with passion. Even Olivia's upright housekeeper Malvolia is swept up in the madness. Where music is the food of love, and nobody is quite what they seem, anything proves possible.

Jude Law takes the stage for the June 7 broadcast of , a stage adaptation of the 1943 Luchino Visconti film. Directed by Ivo van Hove (NT Live: A View from the BridgeHedda Gabler), Obsession tells the story of Gino, a handsome drifter who encounters Giuseppe and Giovanna, a married couple, at a roadside restaurant. After Gino and Giovanna begin a fiery affair, they plot to murder her husband, a feat that only serves to tear them apart.

On June 12, Daniel Radcliffe, Joshua McGuire and David Haig will star in a performance of , a situation comedy by Tom Stoppard broadcast live from The Old Vic theatre in London. Set against the backdrop of Hamlet, two hapless minor characters, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, take center stage as the young duo stumble their way in and out of the action of Shakespeare’s iconic drama.

Concluding the new NT Live offerings is the June 28 broadcast of , presented by Sonia Friedman Productions. Imelda Staunton, Conleth Hill, Luke Treadaway and Imogen Poots star in this critically acclaimed, five-star production of Edward Albee’s landmark play, which tells the story of Martha, who — much to her husband George’s displeasure — has invited the new professor and his wife to their home for some after-party drinks. As the alcohol flows and dawn approaches, the young couple are drawn into George and Martha’s toxic games until the evening reaches its climax in a moment of devastating truth telling.

National Theatre Live is an initiative by the National Theatre to broadcast live performances onto cinema screens around the world. Since its first season in June 2009, the broadcasts have been experienced by more than 5.5 million people in more than 2,000 venues around the world, including more than 650 venues in the UK alone.

Though each broadcast is filmed in front of a live audience in the theatre, cameras are carefully positioned throughout the auditorium to ensure that cinema audiences get the ‘best seat in the house’ view of each production. Where these cameras are placed is different for each broadcast, to make sure that cinema audiences enjoy the best possible experience every time.
