New facility made possible through the generosity of Vic Pino ’73 and family.
With temperatures dropping and snow beginning to fall throughout New England, ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´ Golf has begun to take full advantage of the new . The on-campus, state-of-the-art facility was constructed through the generosity of Vic Pino ’73 and his family and was officially dedicated last month by President Mark R. Nemec, PhD, and Director of Athletics Paul Schlickmann, along with the men’s and women’s golf teams.
Located in McAuliffe Hall, the Pino Golf Studio includes a single-bay swing studio that will allow the Stags to hone their swings using a TrackMan Golf HD simulator and multi-camera review system. Additionally, the studio includes a putting and lounge area for the varsity golf teams to utilize.
"I would like to thank Vic Pino and his family for their vision and generosity to make the Pino Golf Studio a reality," said Director of Athletics Paul Schlickmann. "The Pino family is a perfect example of generations of Stags coming together to enhance the university that they love so much. Facilities like the Pino Golf Studio provide our student-athletes with the opportunity for a championship caliber experience."
Mr. Pino and his wife Mary were on hand for the November ribbon cutting, along with several family members including three Fairfield graduates — his daughter Anne '01, son Rudy '05, and Rudy's wife Kara '05. Vic, Rudy, and Anne are all Fairfield Golf alumni, with Rudy and Anne both having served as team captain during their time with the Stags.
"The Pino Golf Studio is a tremendous enhancement for our men's and women's golf programs" said Doug Holub, director of Fairfield Golf. "The ability to train year-round on campus with top-of-the-line equipment will help our student-athletes and also serve as a recruiting space for the golf programs."
"Our hope is that this golf facility will assist golf team members to improve their skills and achieve their goals," said Pino. "The University and donors can provide the golf program or any other athletic program with support. The student-athlete can be provided with great tools and facilities such as Brooklawn Country Club, this Golf Studio, and a great coach like Doug Holub. However, in the final analysis, it is the student-athlete's talents combined with effort and work which will result in the success one hopes to achieve."
