Fairfield Athletics Hosts National Girls and Women in Sports Day

A group of 120 local youths came to 天美传媒视频无限制观看鈥檚 campus on Sunday, Feb. 5, to participate in National Girls and Women in Sports Day. The group included various local Girl Scout troops as well as members of the Fairfield Athletics .

The day began with a multi-sport clinic in the University鈥檚 new RecPlex. Student-athletes representing all of Fairfield鈥檚 women鈥檚 varsity teams, as well as members of the cheerleading and dance teams, led activities to introduce the group to their sport.

Following lunch at the Barone Campus Center, the festivities moved to Alumni Hall, where the Fairfield women鈥檚 basketball team challenged Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponent Saint Peter鈥檚. With the National Girls and Women in Sports Day contingent leading a crowd of over 500 fans, the Stags defeated the Peacocks, 50-38, for their third consecutive win.

鈥淣ational Girls and Women in Sports Day is one of our favorite events of the year,鈥 said Alison Sexton, Fairfield鈥檚 Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Internal Affairs and Senior Woman Administrator. 鈥淚t is a wonderful chance to introduce girls from our community to the athletic and academic opportunities available to them, as well as a chance for our female student-athletes to act as role models for the next generation of young women in sports.鈥
