“Mini MBA” Prepares Your Student With Business Essentials

Graduating seniors and recent graduates often face uncertainty when trying to decide what their next steps should be. The Dolan School of Business can help. Whether students are looking to learn new skills or launch their careers in the business world, the Dolan School now offers the Business Essentials Certificate, Fairfield’s Mini MBA, as an option after college.

Mark Ligas, PhD, associate dean and director of graduate programs at the Dolan School of Business shared, “These graduate business courses meld core knowledge and principles with application-oriented examples and exercises in highly flexible and convenient delivery formats. Upon completion of the certificate, these courses can be applied to the Dolan MBA if one chooses to pursue the degree option.”

A 12-credit certificate program, the Business Essentials Certificate packages four essential business courses in accounting, organizational behavior, finance and marketing management to provide students with the foundational business knowledge in key disciplines, all in an accelerated and flexible format. Each course equips students with relevant, practical skills to prepare them for success in a challenging job market, thus presenting an excellent alternative — or first stepping stone — to pursuing an additional degree.

The certificate can be completed in just 10 weeks. Three of the four courses are completed online and the remaining course is a four-week course to be completed on campus.

“Men and women aspiring to succeed in business need effective skills that teach them how to move the levers that will help them achieve their career goals,” said Don Gibson, PhD, dean of the Dolan School. “But they need this learning to be flexible and fit their hyper-busy schedules. This is the program for your student.”

Whether your student has just completed his or her undergraduate degree in a non-business discipline, is currently working and needs to develop his or her business competencies or is contemplating an MBA, the Business Essentials Certificate provides the perfect gateway to a successful career in business.
