Friends of Baseball Host Meet Your Mentor Night

On January 24, 天美传媒视频无限制观看 student-athletes, alumni and Friends met in Pelham, New York for the baseball team’s first-ever Meet Your Mentor Night . Hosted by alumnus Joe Solimine ’89, the event enabled student-athletes to meet their mentors, connect and network before heading back to campus.

The program included remarks from Solimine and Ed Kiernan ’92. Following the event, Head Coach Bill Currier spoke on the impact mentor relationships will have on the team. “There is nothing more important off the field for our student-athletes than to get connected with past players out in the real world where they will be embarking in one, two or three years,” said the two-time MAAC Coach of the Year. “These Fairfield Baseball players are being given a tremendous opportunity to get started in their professional lives after college by these leaders in their own communities and businesses. The unselfishness of our alumni base to give back to their program by helping these players get started in life is humbling.”

Kiernan – the mentor committee chair – also shared few words relating to the success of the program to date. “When we launched Friends of Fairfield Baseball five years ago, mentoring was a core tenet of our mission. On Tuesday, we officially kicked off the mentoring program with a huge turnout from players, coaches and alumni. 2016 MAAC Champions, a new stadium and now a mentoring program with 30 baseball alumni to start! We are building something special and we are humbled to play a part in making Fairfield Baseball a model of commitment, engagement and success on and off the field.”

Currier went on to add that “this mentoring model created by the Friends of Fairfield Baseball will not only benefit the current players, but will benefit the alums themselves to learn more about the current happenings with the program and the players lives who are now wearing their old uniform. The connection will be gratifying to all.”

The mentor program was designed to further enhance the student-athlete experience for the Baseball program. Still in its early stages, the program aims to help each athlete further balance student life and athletics, fostering an understanding of Jesuit values and preparing for life outside of North Benson.
