Student Entrepreneurs Advance to the StartUp Showcase

Five student teams have been selected for the sixth annual Fairfield StartUp Showcase, the University鈥檚 annual entrepreneurship competition .聽 Fourteen teams competed for a spot in the Showcase competition which will be held on April 6 where teams will pitch their business idea to a panel of venture capital investors.

鈥淲e have yet another bumper crop of StartUp teams this year,鈥 shared Chris Huntley, associate professor and program director of Fairfield StartUp. 鈥淲e will be working all semester to get them ready for April and beyond. Each week the teams will learn from experts exactly what they need to do to field test their ideas and assumptions with real customers, plan and pitch their companies to investors and form the professional connections that will carry them forward long after the Showcase.鈥

Meet the 2017 Fairfield StartUp teams:

Africa Requests
Africa Requests aims to be the one-stop solution that delivers high quality products to the country of Ghana and other African countries 鈥 a fertile ground for counterfeit products due to lack of infrastructure and strong consumer protection laws. Africa Requests plans to improve the lives of many of the African people one product at a time.

BTW (Bio-desalination for Tomorrow's Water)
Started as a research initiative under Dr. Graeme Berlyn of the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Sciences, BTW is a nonprofit organization that seeks to bring clean, potable water to the millions of individuals who currently do not have access to this basic human right.

College Place
An online destination for college students, College Place helps students find off-campus housing by connecting them with landlords in their area, all in an effort to reduce stress, create better connections and be more efficient.

IdleRides
IdleRides is a ridesharing mobile application and networking platform for students who are frustrated due to lack of mobility on college campuses. Aiming to benefit all parties 鈥斅 car owners, car borrowers and those looking for a ride 鈥 IdleRides offers a quick, schedule-free alternative to traditional campus transportation methods.

TimeKard
TimeKard is an online platform that allows universities to keep track of class attendance for athletes and to compete while following NCAA Compliance regulations. TimeKard also allows students to match their academic and social calendars with a chosen group of friends to create events like going to study, going to dinner or working out.
