Three Stags Earn MAAC Weekly Honors

Three ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´ student-athletes have been recognized by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference for their recent performances for the Stags. Amanda Ulzheimer ’20 from Fairfield softball, Caleigh O’Connor ’17 from women’s lacrosse and Brad Orban ’18 from men’s tennis each collected a weekly award from MAAC.

Ulzheimer was selected as the MAAC Rookie of the Week after leading Fairfield softball to a 3-1 record at the Patriot Classic in Fairfax, VA. For the week, Ulzheimer batted .667 (8 of 12) and owned a .750 on-base percentage in her four starts as an outfielder. She was 5-for-5 on stolen base attempts and did not strikeout in any of her 16 plate appearances over the weekend. One the season, Ulzheimer is Fairfield’s top hitter with a .591 batting average.

Orban was named the MAAC Tennis Player of the Week for the second consecutive week and the third team in his career with the Stags. The junior went 2-0 against Connecticut last Thursday with wins at No. 1 singles and doubles. In singles action he topped the Huskies’ Christopher Toner in straight sets. With partner Anthony Caputo ’18 in doubles play, the pair earned a 7-6 win in the first spot. As the No. 1 singles player for the Stags, Orban is riding a five-match winning streak in singles play and is 12-5 overall this season.

O’Connor was tabbed as the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week following a career-high 10 saves in the Stags’ 10-5 win over New Hampshire on Sunday on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium. In addition to her .714 save percentage, she filled out her statline with five ground balls and two caused turnovers.
