Stags Softball Plays for MAAC Championship Saturday

ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´ Softball will compete for the 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship this Saturday at Iona’s Walsh Field in New Rochelle, N.Y. The Stags, who have won their first three games of the weekend tournament, take the field at noon on Saturday against an opponent to be determined by Friday afternoon’s action.

After winning three of their final four MAAC games to qualify for the postseason, the sixth-seeded Stags have defeated Marist, Siena and Monmouth to surge through the winners’ bracket of the double elimination tournament. Fairfield most recently won the MAAC Championship in 2015 – the second title in program history and the first under the direction of Head Coach Julie Brzezinski – to earn the team’s first-ever NCAA postseason berth.

As the unbeaten team in the tournament, the Stags are one win away from a MAAC Championship while their opponent from the losers’ bracket will need to defeat Fairfield twice to claim the conference crown.
