"What Fairfield Means to Me" Video Among Essay Contest Winners

At 75, Fairfield鈥檚 greatest legacy lies in the impact it has had on our students, faculty, staff, alumni and Jesuits. To learn firsthand how Fairfield has made a difference in the lives of our community members, Nancy Dallavalle, Vice President for Mission and Identity, sponsored a contest seeking answers to the question: 鈥淗ow did Fairfield shape who you are?鈥

All Fairfield community members were invited to submit essays, videos or artwork this spring. As of the deadline on April 21, the committee was thrilled to have received over 50 thoughtful, personal responses from all areas. Three judges then began the difficult job of narrowing the entries to eight winners.

This past Monday, Nancy Dallavalle and contest judges honored the winners at a reception in Bellarmine鈥檚 Great Hall, where each received a $250 prize.

  • Lori Boccuzzi 鈥06 shared a poignant essay about the death of her father who said in his last days, 鈥淭he fact that we both went to Fairfield - that will always be our special memory.鈥
  • Abigail Corning MBA 鈥16 expressed how secure she felt on campus and appreciated the balance between its serenity and the constant stimulation that campus has to offer.
  • Nicole Rosania 鈥20 created a video about her journey at Fairfield and how far she has come already since she moved to campus last fall.
  • Jeanne Di Muzio wrote an essay about her 27-year career at Fairfield and how each position in Student Affairs, and beyond, holds memories of special people, from RAs to Jesuits to students and alumni.
  • Christine Ducey 鈥19 expects her transformation to continue after graduation when she can make the world better because of her 天美传媒视频无限制观看 education.
  • John Falzone, P鈥06 shared how the relationships with Jesuits, colleagues, and most of all students in his role as mentor, has meant the most to him.
  • Maura Hegley 鈥90, P鈥20 said whe wouldn鈥檛 be the person she is today without 天美传媒视频无限制观看; her family, and her Fairfield family, have become one and the same.
  • Anna Kamradt 鈥19 explained how transferring to Fairfield was the best decision she has made and that she would not be the individual she is today without the University.
  • An Honorable Mention was given to Rev. Thomas J. Fitzpatrick, S.J. , for a poem he wrote on the occasion of Fairfield's 75th anniversary.

Nancy Dallavalle concluded the ceremony by commenting that the 鈥渋nterest and enthusiasm for 鈥楢 Fairfield vocation鈥 by all our participants speaks strongly of the promise of Fairfield鈥檚 future!鈥

In the coming weeks and months, all the contest responses will be featured in various communications as we celebrate the positive and creative force of this institution鈥檚 history.
