Students Explore Career Paths with Alumni at the Dolan School Career Night

Mentors gather to share their stories at the professional development series event on October 12.

[it's] a great opportunity for students to learn more about existing opportunities, build relationships, market themselves, and even learn from mistakes

Alumni and business professionals working at companies such as  J.P. Morgan, Ernst & Young, and Blum Shapiro will soon be welcomed to Fairfield for the Dolan School’s annual Career Night event. Students will have the opportunity to sit down with professionals from major business corporations, and discuss not only their future career, but also learn lessons to achieve success. The event will take place at the Dolan School of Business dining room on Thursday, October 12 from 5:30 – 8 p.m.

Rather than hosting the event with a  panel, where professionals and students aren't always able to fully connect with each other, the evening will consist of multiple opportunities for students to talk face-to-face on a personal level with mentors. The evening will begin with a dinner, where each professional will be assigned to a table consisting of approximately eight students. It's during this time that students will be encouraged to discuss, in general terms, career strategies with mentors. Following the dinner portion of the evening, students and mentors will separate into “break-out” groups, made up of students in the same general field of study.

Dolan School board member Lindsay Muldoon ’04, vice president of Northern Trust Hedge Fund Services, is excited to give students the opportunity to meet with her and discuss career paths, development, and existing responsibilities. Muldoon said “With the job market being so competitive for college graduates, Career Night is a great opportunity for students to learn more about existing opportunities, build relationships, market themselves, and even learn from mistakes that others have made.”

Students interested in participating in Career Night should register on OrgSync. This event satisfies a PDS level three requirement.

The Dolan School would like to thank  professionals from the following companies for participating in Career Night: J.P. Morgan, Save the Children USA, Synchrony Financial, Blum Shapiro, Ernst & Young LLP, BDO, Deloitte, Barclays, Northern Trust, Octagon, Mastercard, The Estée Lauder Companies, Barnes Group, and EMC Corporation.
