Emmy Award-Nominated Composer Brings Free Public Performance to Campus on April 29

DBR's En Masse comes to campus on April 29.

Daniel Bernard Roumain (DBR)’s En Masse – a collaborative musical performance best described as a cross between a flash mob and a processional – will take place on Sunday, April 29 from noon to 3 p.m., in and around ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´â€™s Barone Campus Center.

"The opportunity to bring students from throughout Fairfield County together with professional artists is always a privilege for us."

En Masse will feature musical vignettes – performed with anywhere from five to 100 musicians – popping up in different locations in and around the Campus Center. It’s a unique experience that, due to its participatory nature, is also entirely different each time it’s performed. Imagine a duo strumming in a corner, a quartet on the lawn, and a jazz band inside the Campus Center – all performing as part of one unified piece. Featured musicians and artists will include ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´ students, local community members, high school students in the music program from the C.E.S. Regional Center for the Arts in Trumbull, and more.

“We are fortunate to be able to work so closely with an artist in both the creation of a piece and in bringing art into the community. It’s a wonderful partnership. The opportunity to bring students from throughout Fairfield County together with professional artists is always a privilege for us, and it is an initiative central to our mission,” said Lori Jones, director of Programming and Audience Development at the Quick.

DBR is a critically acclaimed Haitian-American composer and performer. Known for his fascinating styles that mix classical violin with electronic and urban music, DBR has been a trailblazer for modern symphony. The New York Times describes his style as “about as omnivorous as a contemporary artist gets,” and goes on to say that DBR “is perhaps the only composer whose collaborations traverse the worlds of Philip Glass, Bill T. Jones, Savion Glover and Lady Gaga.”

An innovator in the arts industry, DBR holds leadership positions in organizations such as the League of American Orchestras and the Association of Performing Arts Professionals. His work with ESPN earned him an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Musical Composition.

DBR also takes his talents and passion for music to schools, where he delivers presentations to students about music and encourages them to follow their musical aspirations.

En Masse is supported, in part, by the New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA) Expeditions Touring program. This highly competitive grant program invests in cultural organizations and artists in all six New England states.

DBR’s En Masse will take place on Sunday, April 29 from noon to 3 p.m., beginning at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´’s Barone Campus Center. The performance is free and open to the general public. For more information, visit or call the box office at 203-254-4010 or call toll free at 1-877-ARTS-396.
