Undergraduate Filmmakers Premiere Original Shorts at the 14th Annual Cinefest

The future Steven Spielbergs and Sofia Coppolas of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´’s film, television, and media arts program will premiere their original films on the big screen during the University’s 14th Annual Cinefest at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts on Friday, April 27, at 7 p.m. The popular student film festival is free and open to the public and includes a pre-event industry panel reception from 6 – 7 p.m. in the Quick Center’s Wien Experimental Theatre.
Each year, Cinefest features an impressive line-up of original short films and videos that are produced by undergraduate students in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts’ film, television, and media arts program. The films are selected by a jury of media industry professionals and Fairfield faculty, who look for submissions with creative storylines and strong character development.
“The reason many of our students get into filmmaking is to share their singular visions with the world,” explained Patrick Brooks, assistant professor of visual and performing arts. “Cinefest offers them a large-scale opportunity to communicate with an audience and see their reactions first hand. We make things to share them with the communities that surround us, and this is at the heart of Cinefest.”
The eleven films selected for this year’s Cinefest represent a mix of genres from serious dramas and thrillers to absurdist comedies, and include the following films and presenters:

As part of the festival, finalists will be honored with awards in the cateogoeries of best film, director, cinematography, editing, screenplay, and sound design.
“Our film, television, and media arts students have shown a high-level of achievement at every level of the filmmaking process, and the films look incredible,” Brooks said. “Real human struggle and desire is at the heart of each of these films, and for me as a faculty member, this shows that students are telling mature stories that reach beyond the boundaries of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´.”
