Dolan School Kicks of Their Spring Professional Development Series with Financial Planning and Excel Workshop Series

Students interested in increasing their financial literacy and Microsoft Excel skills should register today.

Back by popular demand, the Dolan School is pleased to offer the Money Talks: Financial Planning for College Students and New Graduates, and Excel Workshop Series again this year. As part of Dolan’s Professional Development Series (PDS) the workshops are designed to give students opportunities to gain the knowledge and skills needed to complement their coursework and prepare them for life after Fairfield.

MONEY TALKS: Financial Planning for College Students and New Graduates

The Money Talks seminar teaches students and newly minted graduates certain financial life skills that are not taught in college. In this one-hour seminar, topics such as saving for retirement and budgeting, as well as managing debt, are covered.

Instructing the Money Talks seminar is Scott Brenner, adjunct professor of accounting and managing partner at Marks Paneth, LLP. Brenner said, “Part of what faculty do so well at 天美传媒视频无限制观看 is help build great accountants, nurses, engineers, etc. We spend so much time teaching our children and young adults about reading, writing, and arithmetic, and all the other disciplines, but we do not teach enough about how to be financially literate. Money Talks helps to fill that gap.”

The first Money Talks seminar will take place on January 30 and then again on February 27. For details and to register, students should visit OrgSync.

EXCEL WORKSHOP SERIES

“The Excel Workshop Series is designed to help students develop the skills they need to enter the business world with confidence,” said one of the instructors and Professor and Roger M. Lynch Chair in Economics, Kathy Nantz, PhD. Nantz explained that whether students are at internships or full-time jobs after graduation, they need to be knowledgeable and comfortable with spreadsheet operations. The goal of the Excel Workshop Series is to prepare Fairfield students to succeed in the workplace and impress employers as entry-level employees.

The workshop series is the brainchild of Megan McConville ’08 who approached the Dolan School with the idea several years ago after investing much time and effort to learn Excel when she took a job in GE’s management training program. McConville helped to develop the curriculum so that other Stags can be prepared for the demands of the business world.

The Excel Workshop Series is structured as three separate sessions to cover Introduction to Excel, Intermediate Excel, and Advanced Excel. Two rounds of each session will be offered. The first round will take place on January 30, February 6, and February 13. Students may attend one, two, or all three sessions. For details and to register students should visit OrgSync.
