Fairfield鈥檚 entrepreneurship program, Fairfield StartUp, is a finalist in the 2018 CT Entrepreneur Awards for education.
Voting has begun for the 2018 and this year Fairfield StartUp, the University’s entrepreneurship program, is a finalist. The CT Entrepreneur Awards identify and celebrate the state’s leading entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship initiatives. The awards are a product of the CT Entrepreneur Event Organizers consortium, which hosts entrepreneur events in Connecticut. Students, alumni, faculty, and staff are encouraged to .
“Fairfield StartUp is about shining a light on the amazing entrepreneurial talent we have on campus,” said Chris Huntley, PhD, associate professor and program director of Fairfield StartUp. “The fact that the Fairfield StartUp program is now receiving state-wide recognition validates what we already knew: our students really are the best and can compete with anyone when we give them the chance.”
The goal of Fairfield StartUp is to connect entrepreneurial talent at Fairfield with alumni and local business leaders. Students engage in a series of workshops and events to help develop their business plan skills, and those interested in taking it a step further have the opportunity to pitch for a spot in Fairfield’s annual entrepreneurship competition, the Fairfield StartUp Showcase. What began as a small business plan competition in 2012 has grown to attract a live audience of 450 people with thousands of other viewers watching live on Facebook. This year Fairfield StartUp has raised over $100,000 from donors and sponsors for the Showcase and has recruited an all-star alumni investor panel to provide private seed funding during the competition.
