Step Up During the Third Annual Dolan School Week of Service, March 19 – 25

Boys and Girls Village and Play Like a Girl are just a few of the local and national charities that will benefit from students’ efforts during this year's Week of Service.

The Dolan School will host its third annual Week of Service from March 19 to 25. Open to all Fairfield students, Week of Service is designed to give students ways to participate in fundraising and community service during one week in March. The week will kick off on Monday, March 19 with volunteer opportunities at ELLI Day Care Center and a bake sale to benefit the Boys and Girls Village. Students and faculty will also raise money for nOURish Bridgeport at the second annual Lip Sync Battle on March 22. After offering more than a dozen different options for helping others, the weeklong event will culminate on Sunday, March 25 with a tug-of-war charity competition to benefit Play Like a Girl (PLAG), a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the health and empowerment of girls through physical activity.

“We’re very excited for the first annual ‘Pull for PLAG’ event,’” said Week Of Service planning committee member Anthony Crasto ’18. “Fairfield Division 1 athletes, club athletes, and other students will have the chance to raise money for Play Like A Girl, as well as participate in many other service opportunities during the week. The planning committee and I are looking forward to offering students a chance to give back while having fun.”

At the center of the Dolan School Week of Service is the mission to offer students ways to give back and serve as ‘men and women for others.’ Students may elect to participate in 15+ service and fundraising opportunities that have been organized by Dolan School students, faculty, and staff. New this year, Ashley DeLuca ’18 and Evan Donahue ’18 -- with support from Kathi Mettler, coordinator of Graduate Accounting Programs and instructor of the practice in accounting -- have organized a partnership with the Town of Fairfield Police Department to host a fundraiser to benefit the town’s K9 Unit. “K9 For A Cause” will be held on Friday, March 23 and will give students the chance to have their photo taken with three K9 officers, including Officer Jake, one of the first K9 officers in the nation to specialize in socialization and PTSD trauma for first responders.

To learn more about the many service and fundraising opportunities to be offered, from a Fairfield Beach clean-up to a breakfast benefitting the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Foundation, visit OrgSync or contact the Dolan School of Business . Week of Service event information and registration details will be available on OrgSync, starting Tuesday, March 6.

The Dolan School Week of Service is sponsored by The Circle Inn and Hotel Hi-Ho, and Synchrony Financial.
