Head Softball Coach Julie Brzezinski Earns 800th Career Win

Three-time MAAC Coach of the Year is in her 21st season leading Fairfield Softball.

With a 4-2 win at Cal State Fullerton last Tuesday, Fairfield Softball Head Coach Julie Brzezinski earned her 800th career victory. The three-time Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Coach of the Year has won 555 games with the Stags in 21 seasons and previously led the softball team at Campbell University to 245 wins. She is one of 31 active NCAA Division I head coaches to have reached the 800-victory plateau and is among the 60 winningest coaches in Division I softball history.

Brzezinski has guided Fairfield Softball to two of the last three MAAC Championships (2015, 2017) and the program’s first two trips to the NCAA postseason. Last spring, she led the Stags to a four-game sweep of the MAAC Championship to win the conference crown, then nearly upset #18 LSU in a 2-1 pitching duel in the opening game of the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional.

Under Brzezinski’s leadership, the Stags have posted six seasons with 30 or more wins and have collected 25 or more victories in 16 of her 20 prior campaigns at the helm.

Brzezinski came to Fairfield with eight years of head coaching experience at Campbell University in North Carolina. She led the Fighting Camels to three consecutive conference championships from 1993 to 1995, and ended her tenure in Buies Creek with a record of 245-195.

Brzezinski looks to extend her win total next week as the Stags visit Seton Hall and Columbia. The MAAC portion of the schedule begins on campus at Alumni Softball Field on Saturday, March 31 with a noon doubleheader against Monmouth.
