Rice and Marshall Win FUSA Election

Danielle Rice ‘19 and Matthew Marshall ‘19 have been elected FUSA president and vice president for 2018-19.

“Danielle and I are super excited and incredibly honored to represent Fairfield's undergraduate student body,” stated Marshall. “We are really looking forward to getting started on some of the ideas we spoke about in our platform and during the debate last week.”

This, however, will not be the duo’s first time working in the FUSA office. Rice, a public relations and communication double major, was a member of the Executive Board prior to this election, and currently serves as the director of programming for FUSA Senate. As director, she is responsible for leading the FUSA Programming Board to provide programs that meet the interests of the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´ student community -- including events such as Siblings Weekend, President’s Ball, and Dogwoods.

Serving on a different branch of FUSA, Marshall, a marketing major, worked as the chief justice of the FUSA Court this year. In addition to FUSA, Marshall, is a Division I Men’s Rowing athlete and a member of the Pre-Law Society.

Although the move to their newest positions will take some getting used to, Rice and Marshall are prepared to put their campaign platform into action. One of their main initiatives is to improve transportation on campus with a shuttle that would drive students from the Dolan Hall/Townhouse area to the Dolan School of Business/Faber Hall area. Additionally, they would like to institute a safe rides program to transport students safely to and from campus, town, and the beach on weekends. Ultimately, Rice and Marshall hope to spread school spirit within the University community and the greater Fairfield community.

Rice and Marshall have high hopes for the 2018-2019 term as president and vice president. Rice said “Matt and I are excited to continue the many traditions of FUSA, and will hopefully start some of our own. We are joining a long line of succession and have some very big shoes to fill! We look forward to getting to know as many students as we can, and we hope to be successful in representing them.”

Marshall ended by saying that as part of a modern, Jesuit Catholic University, they hope to put forth "initiatives that will increase the University's commitment to Fairfield's continual rise in academics, athletics, sustainability, and becoming a national leader in higher education.”
