ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´

In keeping with ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´’s core Jesuit value of being men and women for others, over 100 senior students, faculty, and staff came together to volunteer for the fifth annual Senior Week Day of Service. Second through fourth grade students from Bryant Elementary School gathered in the courtyard on Tuesday to participate in a carnival-themed field day.

“For the fifth year, we have had a service experience during the graduating class's final week on campus, helping to bring students’ Fairfield experience full circle,” stated Assistant Director of Student Programs Colleen Wilson.

Organized by the Senior Week Committee, the Office of Student Engagement, and Campus Ministry, seniors traveled to Bryant School in Bridgeport, CT to hold a field day celebration for students. The day featured activities like mini-golf, target toss, and "Ring around the Rory," Rory being Bryant School’s tiger mascot. Fairfield students also helped lead dance numbers such as the YMCA and the cha-cha slide, and enjoyed the company of Bryant students and staff.

“Being able to work the carnival at Bryant School with my fellow Stags was a blast, and seeing the joy we brought to the kids made it such an impactful experience,” stated senior Stephen Dierks. “I really enjoyed being able to give back during my final week at Fairfield, and really enjoyed seeing my classmates and friends interact with the kids.”

The Day of Service is part of Fairfield’s annual Senior Week, a long-standing tradition where seniors participate in a week-long series of events prior to Commencement. The week provides an opportunity for the graduating class to strengthen friendships, reflect on their years together, and celebrate their accomplishments as they prepare for the future.

“ It was a great experience to volunteer side by side with my classmates as we wrap up our time,” said Rachel Zanfardino ’18. “ I don’t know who had more fun—the kids or the Fairfield students!”
