ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´’s Educational Technology program in the Graduate School of Education and Allied Professions (GSEAP) is now a fully online graduate degree program. The program is designed for candidates from all teaching disciplines, as well as those contemplating a career change or an enhancement to their existing professional skills.
Participants in the program often work as teachers, co-teachers, and consultants in schools, agencies, and professional development organizations in and out of the field of education. The Master of Arts in Educational Technology is designed to create leaders in the field who can model, use, and provide learning experiences to others regarding best educational technology practices. The program seeks to teach educators to enhance 21st century learning environments, as well as to apply this new knowledge of educational technology in their diverse educational settings.
When asked what sets Fairfield’s program apart from others, Program Director Josh Elliott, EdD, said, "We are constantly striving to stay current, which is essential in the everchanging world of Ed Tech. We aim to stay competitive and to give students a multitude of diverse skills. At the same time, our program is designed to accommodate all schedules, and to be relevant to what is going on in the field. This program is not just theoretical. Students walk away with a solid digital footprint to become leaders in their profession. They are not just consuming information they are producing it.”
Also important to note is that the program offers three new online certificates for candidates seeking to improve their skills in particular areas of the ed tech field: Classroom Technology Integration, Leadership in Educational Technology, and Learning Design and Technology.
Educators looking to join this program are joining at the right time, as Connecticut has just adopted the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) standards, and Fairfield’s program will soon offer ISTE-certified credentials. ISTE certification is a competency-based, teacher certification modeled against the ISTE Standards for Educators. It recognizes educators who use ed tech for learning in impactful ways, and this summer, the Ed Tech program will offer two courses in response to these new standards: Unpacking the New ISTE Standards and Special Topics: Open Educational Resources.
Fairfield’s Ed Tech Program also hosts the annual Educational Technology Collaboration Day, which will take place on Thursday, March 21, 2019 in the Dolan Dining Room from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event offers an opportunity for educators to collaborate with other ed tech enthusiasts and to share knowledge on relevant topics.
