Grammy Award-Winning Soweto Gospel Choir Returns to the U.S. for December 5 Concert at Quick Center

In honor of Nelson Mandela’s 100th birthday, the South African choir’s “Songs of the Free” tour will feature Mandela’s best-loved freedom songs and gospel music, as well as seasonal favorites.

Ready to be inspired? The Soweto Gospel Choir’s “Songs of the Free” tour will make a stop at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts on December 5 at 8 p.m. for a concert of incredible vocals and uplifting songs in celebration of Nelson Mandela’s 100th birthday.

Filling the stage with vibrant costumes, the 20-member Soweto Gospel Choir will honor the father of their “rainbow nation” with Mandela’s most cherished South African freedom songs and gospel music. “Songs of the Free” will have exhilarated audience members dancing in the aisles to what Billboard described as “Absolutely thrilling singers...dazzling music.”

The two-time Grammy Award-winning Soweto Gospel Choir has been spreading joy across the globe for nearly two decades. The group has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in music including U2, the late Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Robert Plant, Celine Dion, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Josh Groban. The dynamic choir performs both traditional and contemporary music, adding its unique feel and interpretation to both.

The “Songs of the Free” performance will feature six of South Africa's 11 official languages in songs with rich harmonies, earthy rhythms, a lively four-piece band and a percussion section. The Soweto Gospel Choir is eager to share its uplifting message of hope, faith, and joy with audiences new and old on this special return visit, as they celebrate the legacy of the great Nelson Mandela.

At this performance, and in partnership with the Quick Center, the 天美传媒视频无限制观看 Student Alumni Association will be collecting new teddy bears and stuffed animals (or monetary donations to purchase the toys) for their 20th Annual Teddy Bears with Love Drive. The students will distribute these gifts to local children’s hospitals and charities across the country this holiday season.

Soweto Gospel Choir’s “Songs of the Free – A Celebration of Nelson Mandela” is sponsored by the Westport Inn, WPKN, and Morris Media. Tickets are $55, $50 | $35 for Quick Members.
