Students to Make Directorial Debut in Theatre Fairfield’s Director’s Cut

The student-directed and acted production will feature six 10-minute plays, Nov. 29 – Dec. 2

Directing a play for public performance is the culmination of theatre students’ work, when they truly get the opportunity to put theory into practice as they conceive and create a full production.

Theatre Fairfield, the resident production company at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´, continues its 2018-19 season with Director’s Cut, an evening of six 10-minute contemporary plays directed and performed by students enrolled in the University’s theatre program.

Performances will take place at the Faber Dining Commons on Thursday, November 29 and Saturday, December 1 at 8 p.m., with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, December 2, 2018. Tickets are $18 general admission, $10 for seniors and University staff, and $5 for students. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Quick Center Box Office, by phone at 1-877-ARTS-396, or online at

The student-directed and acted production has become an biannual tradition for Theatre Fairfield, and this year’s selection of plays encompass a wide range of stories that include an insurance salesman’s search for a brief love affair, a married couple’s midnight adventure at the beach, and a friendship between mobsters that ends up complicating a job. The six plays featured in the production include Film Noir by Bathsheba Doran, DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) by Wanda Strukus, Grunions by Barbara Lindsay, Short Term Affairs by Donna Spector, Coffee Break by Jerry Thompson, and Let Me Count the Ways by Jay D. Hanagan.

“Directing a play for public performance is the culmination of theatre students’ work, when they truly get the opportunity to put theory into practice as they conceive and create a full production,” said Marti LoMonaco, PhD, professor of visual and performing arts and the producer of Director’s Cut. “Director’s Cut is their golden opportunity to make theatre, and it isn’t merely a class project. It is a fully-fledged part of Theatre Fairfield’s 2018-19 season.”

A combination of six talented juniors and seniors are slated to make their directorial debuts in Director’s Cut, including Shannon Kelley ’19, Romina Rabines ’19, Tim Healey ’20, Elliot Harrell ’20, Emily Ramsey ’20, and Fallon Sullivan ’20. The production is stage managed by Samantha Millette ‘20, and features a cast of twelve ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´ students. The production is produced by Dr. LoMonaco and includes mentorship by Lynne Porter, Julie Leavitt, and Anne Kendall.
