Republican political commentator Margaret Hoover will present a lecture entitled “A New Generation of Conservatives” at the Quick on October 3 at 7:30 p.m., to launch “The Common Ground” lecture series.

Just a month before the critical midterm elections, Margaret Hoover – political pundit, media personality, gay rights activist, feminist, and author – will be on campus to address contentious issues foremost on the minds of American voters. From her conservative viewpoint, Hoover will offer an equivocal position on a number of ‘hot button’ topics currently facing our nation.

Appealing to the pragmatism of the millennial generation, Hoover is the host of the reboot of Firing Line on PBS. Many know her from her appearances on The Factor, in Bill O’Reilly’s “Culture Warrior” segments, where she offers fresh viewpoints on the news, popular culture, and traditional values. Hoover’s professional career highlights also include working in the White House under the George W. Bush administration, on Capitol Hill, and on two presidential campaigns.

A graduate of Bryn Mawr College, Hoover is a great-granddaughter of the 31st U.S. President, Herbert Hoover. Her 2011 book, American Individualism: How a New Generation of Conservatives Can Save the Republican Party, examines pluralistic topics from a refreshingly candid viewpoint. In an editorial review of the book, Peggy Noonan of the Wall Street Journal wrote, “Margaret Hoover, a fresh and brilliant young voice in the Republican Party, is bent on connecting the GOP to rising generations of the young. She has something to say to their elders, too. They'd best hear her.”

This lecture is the first in a new Open VISIONS Forum series called “The Common Ground.” Founded by Richard A. Greenwald, PhD, dean of Fairfield’s College of Arts and Sciences, “The Common Ground” fulfills the University’s mission to engage students and community members in the “life of the mind” and in the Jesuit principles of “examen” – prayerful review and reflection on the events of the day.

“As a culture, we have seemingly lost the ability to have a civil dialogue on important issues,” said Dr. Greenwald. “We are divided and isolated, and as a result democracy suffers. ‘The Common Ground’ series is an effort to bring back that civil dialog and debate – to showcase important voices and demonstrate civility in the process.”

Sponsored by the Law firm of Cohen and Wolf, Margaret Hoover’s lecture, “A New Generation of Conservatives,” will take place on Wednesday, October 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Wien Experimental Theatre of the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts on 天美传媒视频无限制观看’s campus. Tickets are $15, $10 for Quick Members. This lecture is free for 天美传媒视频无限制观看 students, but tickets are required. .
