Hip Hop Dance Company FLEXN to Perform at Quick Center on August 22

As part of the Artist-in-Residence Program at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at 天美传媒视频无限制观看, internationally recognized FLEXN will premiere FLEX AVE., a brand-new work by "flexing" dance style pioneer Reggie “Regg Roc” Gray.

During a weeklong residency at the Quick Center, the hip hop dance company FLEXN will present a work-in-progress performance of FLEX AVE. on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.

FLEXN arrives at the Quick following a recent residency at The Shed in New York City, and breakthrough performances at New York’s Park Avenue Armory, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, and Manchester International Festival.

Originated in Brooklyn, N.Y. and characterized by a vocabulary all its own — “pauzin,” “get-low,” “bone-breaking” — the dance style "flexing" developed from various Jamaican street dance styles into a distinct art form that has spread across the globe. It has even been embraced by pop royalty, as evidenced in Beyonce’s recent Coachella performance, which featured several FLEXN alums.

As part of the Quick’s Artist-in-Residence program, FLEXN will be putting the finishing touches on this latest performance piece, FLEX AVE., and the artists will also be leading classes in hip hop dance for local youth, as part of the Quick’s Summer Intensive Program. With a company mission to show that creative expression can be used as a tool for social change and as an inspiration to overcome adversity, FLEXN is firmly committed to arts education.

The Quick Center is dedicated to serving as a creative incubator — providing space for artists from around the world to focus on the creation of new work, connecting those artists with our community through audience dialogue, and offering educational opportunities for our audiences to engage in the art form.

The FLEXN work-in-progress performance of FLEX AVE. on Thursday, August 22 is part of the Quick Center’s Pay What You Decide program — a social experiment in which we invite audience members to value their own artistic experience. Tickets can be reserved for free at , and after the performance audience members are invited to determine the value of their tickets and make voluntary payment by cash or credit card.

FLEXN is generously sponsored, in part, by Fairfield County Community Foundation and The Westport Inn. For more information or to reserve your seat, visit or call the box office at 203-254-4010 or toll free at 1-877-ARTS-396.
