As the most celebrated female artist of the seventeenth century, the extraordinary events of Artemisia Gentileschi’s life and her very gender itself are never far from the surface of her canvases. Join Fiona Garland on Tuesday, December 1 at 11 a.m. for a free virtual talk exploring the life and work of this remarkable woman as participants wander virtually through the halls of the National Gallery in London’s first blockbuster exhibition dedicated to Artemisia.

“Fiona Garland is such an expert and engaging speaker," Said Carey Mack Weber, the Frank and Clara Meditz Executive Director of the Museum. "We are delighted that she agreed to do this free program for the museum on the Artemisia Gentileschi exhibition, now on view at the National Gallery in London. As none of us are able to go and see the exhibition in person due to Covid-19, her insights will transport us all across the pond as she shares her knowledge about the most celebrated female artist of the 17^th century.”

Garland, who has lead popular lectures for the museum in the past, earned her master's in art history from the Courtauld Institute in London, specializing in Venetian art. Teaching in a lively and engaging style, she has guided tours of art museums and churches across Europe and North America. Garland is a member of the Advisory Committee for the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´ Art Museum.
