GSEAP Faculty Highlights

The work continues! Our faculty have won awards, given presentations, and kept up their essential work with community partners during the last few months. Below are some of the highlights:

Julie Berrett-Abebe, PhD, LICSW, assistant professor of social work, presented at the Council on Social Work Education conference and gave on local TV station WWLP 22 News.

Dr. Berrett-Abebe co-authored a project, “Novel Narrative Discussion in Foundation Practice to Support Social Work Competence,” which was presented at the Council on Social Work Education 66th Annual Program.

Erica Hartwell, PhD, LMFT, associate professor of Marriage and Family Therapy, delivered a keynote address as the Graduate Teacher of the Year at the Alpha Sigma Nu induction on October 18. GSEAP students Sarah Stevens and Eric’ka Somerville Lalanne were inducted during the ceremony.

Stephaney Morrison, PhD, assistant professor of counselor education, had her presentation, "Promoting College and Career Readiness Among Caribbean Immigrants in K-12," chosen as a featured presentation at this month's New York State School Counselor Conference. Her presentation, “Person-Centered Counseling Approach to Teach School Counselors' Social Advocacy,” will be featured at the North Atlantic Region Association of Counselor Education and Supervision Year of Learning in February 2021.

Jocelyn Novella, PhD, assistant professor of counselor education, was accepted to the Editorial Review Board at the Journal of College Counseling.

Dr. Novella and Tracey Robert, PhD, professor of counselor education, presented “Integrating Clinical Supervision into Professional Counselor Identity,” at the Connecticut Counseling Association on November 19.

Mike Regan, PhD, NCSP, professor of the practice of psychological and educational consultation, provided the technical assistance to the Connecticut State Department of Education needed to develop two guidance documents for school districts: Annotated Alternate Assessment System Eligibility Form and Addendum 6: Reopening Guidance for Educating Students with Disabilities.

Dr. Regan and Paula Gill Lopez, PhD, associate professor and director of school psychology, partnered with the Connecticut Association of School Psychologists (CASP) to present “Best Practices in Special Education Assessment During COVID: A Panel Discussion,” on November 10.

Jay Rozgonyi, MA, MLS, associate vice provost for innovation and effectiveness, was inducted into Alpha Sigma Nu, the Jesuit honor society, during their 2020-2021 ceremony. He was honored for his outstanding service to 天美传媒视频无限制观看. 

Emily Smith, PhD, professor of English education, and Dr. Gill Lopez held a well-attended statewide workshop for teams of teachers and support staff to infuse social-emotional learning into academics in keeping with the Education Commissioner’s priorities.

In partnership with The Kennedy Center in Bridgeport, the Special Education program completed an online mini-session of TOPS (Transition Opportunities for Post-Secondary Success) in October.
