Best-Selling Author and Columnist David Brooks at the Quick Center, March 23

Presented by the Quick Center’s Open VISIONS Forum (OVF) lecture series, in affiliation with ­­­­­­the College of Arts & Sciences, David Brooks will discuss the challenges and decisions faced by democracy in America.

On Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at 7:30 p.m., 天美传媒视频无限制观看’s Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts will present “Democracy: Choices and Challenges,” led by nationally renowned reporter and political and cultural commentator . The program is part of the College of Arts & Sciences’ Common Ground Series and the OVF’s  Annual Student Forum. 

Beginning his journalism career in 1986 at the Wall Street Journal, Brooks started as an editor in the book review section of the paper and served briefly as a movie critic before moving to the paper’s Brussels office as an editor and foreign correspondent covering regions in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. At the end of his tenure at the Journal he was an editor of the opinion page.

Having been a senior editor of The Weekly Standard magazine and a contributing editor at Newsweek, Brooks began writing his op-ed column for The New York Times in 2003. He is an analyst on PBS NewsHour, National Public Radio’s All Things Considered, and NBC’s Meet the Press. His articles have appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, Forbes, The Washington Post, and many more.

In 2000, Brooks published his first book, Bobos in Paradise: The New Upper Class and How They Got There, and a sequel titled On Paradise Drive: How We Live Now (And Always Have) in the Future Tense, was published in 2004. His fifth and most recent book was published in 2019, The Second Mountain: The Quest for a Moral Life.

Brooks is a graduate of the University of Chicago. He teaches at Yale University and is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
