Join the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´ Art Museum and Michael Ciavaglia ’04, DMA, for a cappella selections of Renaissance sacred music in Bellarmine Hall at 5 p.m.
Michael Ciavaglia ’04, DMA, visiting assistant professor of music, co-director of the College of Arts and Sciences' Music program, and voice instructor at Fairfield, will be leading members of the Connecticut Chamber Choir in performing a cappella selections of Renaissance sacred music on the evening of Monday, September, 19 at 5 p.m. in Bellarmine Hall on campus.
Tracy Ferguson ’22, will also perform a number from her musical Among the Women, which imagines the Blessed Mother in conversation with women of the Old Testament and was developed as part of Ferguson’s senior thesis and as a member of the Humanities Institute Seminar.
The program is being presented in conjunction with the Out of the Kress Vaults: Women in Sacred Renaissance Paintings exhibition on view now through December 17, 2022 in the Bellarmine Hall Galleries.
“This performance continues the exhibition’s own focus on involving students and alumni in our work,” said Michelle DiMarzo, PhD, curator of education and academic engagement for the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´ Art Museum and assistant professor of art history and visual culture in the College of Arts and Sciences.
“We’re so pleased to be working with Dr. Ciavaglia who selected pieces of sacred music from this time period to perform with members of the Connecticut Chamber Choir. It promises to be a truly unique event in a wonderful setting.”
ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÊÓƵÎÞÏÞÖƹۿ´ Out of the Kress Vaults: Women in Sacred Renaissance Paintings – The exhibition explores representations of femininity and virtue in Renaissance paintings of the Virgin Mary, female saints and martyrs, and nuns. The loans for the exhibition come from Samuel H. Kress collections at museums and universities including the Austin Arts Center at Trinity College, Harvard Art Museums, the Lowe Museum at the University of Miami, the Mead Art Museum at Amherst College, the Samuel H. Kress Foundation, and the National Gallery of Art, with an emphasis on works borrowed from storage at their home institutions.
