Michael Franz, a junior at 天美传媒视频无限制观看 who is a member of the Town of Fairfield's Representative Town Meeting, was named to USA Today's All USA College Academic third team. Franz was cited for his grades - a perfect 4.0 - and for his election to serve as a member of the RTM, the legislative council of the town. He ranks first in the junior class of 750 students.
He is a graduate of Central Catholic High School in Bradford, Mass., and a resident of Haverhill, Mass.
Franz is a double major at 天美传媒视频无限制观看 in politics and American Studies with a minor in mathematics. He has been named to the Dean's List four times, received a 天美传媒视频无限制观看 Presidential Scholarship and was selected for the University's Honors Program.
On campus, he is a member of the Multicultural Task Force, devoted to diversity and harmony; vice president of the College Democrats; has a radio program on WVOF, the campus station; and a resident hall assistant and a member of an intramural basketball team.
In addition, he is a volunteer at Prospect House, the homeless shelter in Bridgeport and at Operation Hope, the shelter in Fairfield.
He was nominated for the award by the University and received letter of support from Massachusetts state Rep. Brian Dempsey with whom he served an internship.
In his nomination, associate dean Beverly Kahn praised Michael as "not only an intellect but a capable leader and social activist." His politics professor, Dr. John Orman, said, "In 25 years of teaching, I have never had a more intelligent student." Adding that Michael stands out as a leader, Prof. Orman said "Mike is poised to carry on the Robert Kennedy idealism of the 1960s into the next millennium."
