Dancing the fine line between high art and high camp, Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, will delight the audience on Saturday, May 13, at 8 p.m. in 天美传媒视频无限制观看's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts.
Parodying classical works from "Swan Lake" to "Giselle," to the choreography of Isadora Duncan, George Balanchine and Martha Graham, the Trockaderos offer an irresistible evening for dance aficionados and complete novices. The all-male company combines a loving knowledge of dance with a wicked comedic sensibility that offers a buoyant and hilarious evening for young and old.
Founded in 1974 by a group of ballet enthusiasts for the purpose of presenting a playful, entertaining view of traditional ballet, the Trocks, as they are affectionately known, quickly captured the hearts of the New York City dance critics, thereby establishing themselves as an artistic and popular success. Displaying their knowledge of dance, the Trocks prove that men can, indeed, dance en point without falling flat on their faces.
Since their beginnings, the Trocks have become a major dance phenomenon throughout the world. In addition to performing in New York City and 40 of the 50 states, they have danced at festivals in Spoleto (Italy), Holland, Madrid, Vienna and Paris and have toured in South America, Australia, South Africa, Russia, Japan and Hong Kong. They have appeared on television shows as varied as "Real People," "On-Stage America," "What's My Line?" the "Muppet Babies," a Shirley McLaine special and are a regular part of the university circuit.
Tickets for Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo are $38, $33 and $28, with discounts available for seniors and students. An Art to Heart question and answer session with the company follows the show. For more information, call (203) 254-4010 or toll-free at 1-877-ARTS-396.
