"Recent Paintings and Drawings" by Suzanne Chamlin will be on view at 天美传媒视频无限制观看's Lukacs Gallery, Loyola Hall, Room 17, from Sept. 19, through Thursday, Oct. 12. The exhibit opens with a reception on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 5:30 p.m.; a lecture by the artist follows at 6 p.m.
The exhibition will include paintings and drawings worked on at different on-site locations. Ms. Chamlin works directly from nature as well as from memory and imagination. The theme of light, experienced directly and from memory, is an important element of these pieces. Layered with shapes of abstracted forms, the artist creates elegant landscapes of real and imaginary places.
Ms. Chamlin writes, "My paintings and drawings are about seeing into nature. I experience nature as a complex visual world through which I work with light to explore my perceptions. Experimenting with my materials, I gather and interpret information to reconstruct the elements of landscapes through my imagination."
Suzanne Chamlin's solo exhibitions include: The National Arts Club, New York; Saint Peter's Church, New York; Wichita State University; and the Fine Arts Museum of Long Island. Her group shows include: the University of Hawaii at Hilo; the Painting Center, New York; the Nelson-Atkins Museum, Kansas City; and 76 Varick Street, New York. Her work can be seen in the permanent collections of the Nelson-Atkins Museum, the National Gallery of Art, Commerce Bancshares and Hallmark Cards.
Ms. Chamlin, who received an MFA in Painting from Yale University, has received numerous residencies, most recently at the Virginia Center for Creative Arts in 1999, in Spain also in 1999, and at Yaddo in 1997.
