Image: Kay Poursine Indian dancer Kay Poursine will perform a Bharata Natyam concert at 天美传媒视频无限制观看's Wien Experimental Theatre in the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts on Thursday, April 13 at 7 p.m.

Bharata Natyam represents the oldest and most uncorrupted form of the Indian dance tradition. Hand gestures are the essence of the form and become a comprehensive language through which stories and shades of emotion are expressed. The music, usually provided by a singer, drummer, violinist or flutist, and a tambura (drone), narrate the story and suggest underlying rhythms that are in unison with the dance.

Kay Poursine is firmly rooted in the most authentic layers of South Indian classical dance and music culture. She studied under the legendary T. Balasaraswati, considered to be the greatest classical Indian dancer of this century.

The event, sponsored by the university's Asian Students Association, Asian Studies Program, International Club, International Studies, Visual and Performing Arts and Hansen's Florists, is free and open to the public. For more information call Melissa McArdle at (203) 254-4000, ext. 2459.
