The 天美传媒视频无限制观看 Media Center wins five 2008 Videographer Awards
The Videographer Awards, an international awards program that recognizes talented individuals and companies in the video production field, has honored the 天美传媒视频无限制观看 Media Center with five awards for its work in a wide variety of genres. The productions recognized include "Fairfield Beach: The Library," an interactive choose-your-own-adventure DVD; "Escort, Escort," a short film about the powerful journey of the human soul; "Ignatius Rap," a music video starring Saint Ignatius of Loyola; "Greetings from Havre de Grace," a documentary that examines profound aspects of this historic Maryland town; and "Rider vs. Fairfield," a live broadcast of a University basketball game.
The Videographer Awards are given by communication professionals to recognize filmmakers and their clients for "raising the standards of the industry." Media Center staff were especially gratified by the honors because the competition included not just universities, but cable and broadcast television operations, video production companies, advertising and public relations firms, corporate communication departments, government agencies, independent producers and special event producers.
The Media Center encourages the exploration of narrative and documentary films by making funding and state-of-the-art equipment and editing facilities available to young filmmaking students at Fairfield. Promising filmmakers are encouraged to work on projects with actual clients. For example, "Fairfield Beach: The Library" was commissioned by the University's DiMenna-Nyselius Library. Professional staff and students work side by side on projects. Central to the Media Center are two Jesuit priests who have worked in film professionally for years. Rev. James Mayzik, S.J., director of the Media Center and the University's New Media: Film, Television and Radio program, and Rev. Mark Scalese, S.J., assistant professor of New Media, were both recognized for their work this year. For more info, see fairfield.edu/vpa_media
"Fairfield Beach: The Library," "Escort, Escort" and "Rider vs. Fairfield" were honored with Awards of Excellence, the highest award in the competition given to those entries capturing an event or communicating a message that is exceptional.

"Fairfield Beach: The Library" was produced as a vehicle for students to become aware of the DiMenna-Nyselius Library's services in an entertaining manner. Ramona Islam, senior reference librarian and instruction coordinator, and Leslie Porter, formerly reference and instruction librarian, wrote the screenplay. Robert Cammisa, a rising junior, directed, produced, and edited the video with the assistance of other film students and Media Center production staff. A spoof of the TV show "Laguna Beach," it follows the story of Julie, a college student, figuring out her relationship problems. Viewers get to choose what Julie does, and in doing so get a lesson on the library's different research services.

"Rider vs. Fairfield" was honored in the TV programs/sports category. The Media Center embarked on broadcasting live men's and women's 2007-2008 basketball games for the Fairfield County Cablevision audience, and this men's game with Rider University was one of them. The series, commissioned by the Department of Athletics and the Office of the Vice President for Student Services, was an in-house effort from start to finish and reflected the Media Center's practice of integrating professional staff and students to work on projects. The University's cutting edge satellite uplink truck was used for the broadcasts. Casey Timmeny, the Media Center's external projects producer, was the series producer and Fr. Mayzik was executive producer.

"Escort, Escort" is about a disillusioned young man who takes a job driving an Eastern European escort. It was written, directed and edited by Brad Martocello, a School of Engineering graduate who is a Media Center staff member. Alumni Patrick Ginnetty, Mike Brennan, and Tim O'Connor played key roles in the film's production and Fr. Mayzik was the executive producer.

"Greetings from Havre de Grace" was given an Award of Distinction, the second highest award level. Written, directed and edited by Fr. Scalese, the documentary explores Havre de Grace, a historic town in Maryland at the confluence of the Susquehanna River and Chesapeake Bay. It examined the origin of the town's name, the concept of grace and one's need for it, and whether or not any location truly can be considered a "harbor of grace."

"Ignatius Rap" was also given an Award of Distinction, in the TV/creativity/original music category. The film was made to be an introduction video for students entering Jesuit schools. It is a contemporary view of Saint Ignatius (played by graduate student John Perez) and uses fast paced, fun visuals to draw out his life. Patrick Ginnetty, a 2007 graduate who was a New Media major, directed and edited the video, with the assistance of other film students and Media Center production staff. He also wrote the rap melody and lyrics.
