Tings Dey Happen
was written and is performed by
Dan Hoyle
, who developed it based on a year he spent in Nigeria in 2005-2006 as a Fulbright scholar. Charlie Varon directs.
"Wildly entertaining and the most nuanced and insightful treatment of the complexities of oil politics I have encountered in a decade of covering energy for The Economist." - Vijay Vaitheeswaran,
The Economist
.
Hoyle refers to
Tings Dey Happen
in an article written for Salon, as "The fine art of battling oil addiction... I play more than a dozen Nigerian characters including militants, ganja sellers and prostitutes, as well as a handful of Westerners, to tell the story of life on the volatile West African oil frontier." The play is an honor to these people and a hope that the stories stay with the audience after it leaves the theater.
