Image: Gavriel Rosenfield Historian Gavriel D. Rosenfeld, Ph.D., will delve into the complicated world of Jewish memory and memorials in "Building After Auschwitz: Jewish Architecture and the Memory of the Holocaust," a free lecture on Thursday, April 19 at the 天美传媒视频无限制观看 Bookstore, 1499 Post Road, Fairfield. This talk, one of a series celebrating newly released 天美传媒视频无限制观看 faculty publications, will begin at 7 p.m.

Dr. Rosenfeld, an acclaimed author and associate professor of at Fairfield, will consider the cultural development of Jewish architecture as the result of important shifts in Jewish memory and identity since the Holocaust. He'll also describe the rise of postmodernism, multiculturalism, and Holocaust consciousness as a catalyst and show how Jewish architects responded to the Nazi genocide in their work, shedding new light on the evolution of Holocaust memory.

Dr. Rosenfeld received his bachelor's degree in history and Judaic studies from Brown University and his Ph.D. in history from UCLA. He is the author of several books, including his latest, "Building After Auschwitz: Jewish Architecture and the Memory of the Holocaust" (Yale University Press, 2011) and "Beyond Berlin: Twelve German Cities Confront the Nazi Past" (Ann Arbor, 2008). His essays and articles have appeared in "The Washington Post," "The San Francisco Chronicle" and "The Journal of Modern History."
