Feminism meets education in bookstore talk

Image: W Kohli Are you interested in the state of feminism today and how it interacts with education? Do you wonder why people research what they research and how that research relates to the study of gender and women's issues? Come to the 天美传媒视频无限制观看 Bookstore at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28 for an informative and informal talk with Wendy Kohli, Ph.D., who has just released a book on the subject. All are welcome to this free discussion at the downtown bookstore, 1499 Post Road, Fairfield.

Dr. Kohli, a professor of educational studies and teacher preparation and a member of the Women's Studies Coordinating Council at 天美传媒视频无限制观看, has long studied feminism and its relationship to education, work that culminated in her recently released book, Feminisms and Educational Research (Rowman and Littlefield, 2012), which she co-authored with Nicholas Burbules. Participants need not read the book to take part in the discussion.

Dr. Kohli's book is receiving positive reviews for its provocative thoughts and engaging tone. "Smart, sophisticated and definitively comprehensive, Kohli and Burbules's text moves feminist theory from an often-outsider place in educational research right into the mainstream," wrote critic Lynda Stone. "Research knowledge is no longer just king but now queen. The book reminds previous generations of the need for feminist theorizing and for this generation of its continuing relevance. This is a must-read today as it will be for several decades to come."

Dr. Kohli holds a bachelor's and a master's degree from the State University of New York, Cortland, and a Ph.D. from Syracuse University.
