Award-winning author Baron Wormser, poet laureate of Maine from 2000 to 2005, will offer a free reading of his latest works on Wednesday, March 7 at 7 p.m. at the Dolan School of Business Dining Room, 天美传媒视频无限制观看. Presented by the University's MFA in Creative Writing, this event is free and open to the public.
Wormser, who is a faculty member in the MFA program at Fairfield, is the author of eight books of poetry, as well as a memoir and a collection of short stories. His latest book of poetry, "Impenitent Notes," was published in 2011. Wormser directs the Frost Place Conference on Poetry and Teaching in Franconia, New Hampshire.
Wormser is a realist who finds his poetic voice in the day to day, in popular culture, and in the emotional particulars that make us human. His poems, some of which first appeared in Paris Review , Prairie Schooner , Sewanee Review, and other prestigious literary publications, as well as on National Public Radio's "All Things Considered" and "Writer's Almanac," probe beneath the skin of ordinary folk, expressing a host of human concerns and observations, from aspirations and certainties to disappointments and defeats.
"These poems are easy to slip into and enjoy," wrote reviewer Teresa Scollon in ForeWord. "What takes more time to soak in is Wormser's astonishing ability to imagine another's experience, and his masterful use of language."
