Additionally, students are required to complete the weekly Travel Log with their intended travel. In Case of Emergency

Personal Emergencies

In case of a personal emergency, your first point of contact should be your local program site staff or local police. They will be able to provide you with timely assistance and support.

Large-Scale Emergencies

In the vicinity of a large-scale emergency, students should first contact their local program site staff for specific procedures for emergencies. We also recommend checking in with their family and friends at home to affirm their well-being.

Visits from friends & family

Visits from family and friends are allowed, however, students must remember that guests are not permitted to stay overnight in their abroad accommodations. Students with overnight guests in their housing risk dismissal from their program.

We highly recommend that people wishing to visit students abroad do so during the program breaks. This will give students enough time to become acclimated to their host program and country, and allow them to adjust to their new academic culture.

Preparing to be back on campus

Obtaining housing

Students who study abroad during the fall semester are guaranteed housing when they return from abroad in the spring. Since they do not participate in the On-Campus Lottery to select housing for the Fall semester, there are a few options for the students to choose from to procure housing.

Many students make arrangements with friends to swap into spaces that friends are vacating for Spring Study Abroad. If that is not an option, Res Life will send students a Spring housing plans form to complete via email in late October. For students without specific requests, Res Life will place them into housing with compatible roommates based on their housing application.

Students who study abroad during the spring semester will follow the University Housing Lottery process while abroad.

Students must stay engaged in their University emails while abroad to ensure optimal housing placement.

Registering for classes

Students will register for the following semester as usual while abroad. They are expected to know what courses they need to take before departure for their semester abroad since they will be unable to meet with their advisor while abroad. The Office of the Registrar will email students the date and time for their registration, their PIN, as well as information on the course booklet. Should students have any questions, they should contact the Office of the Registrar directly.
